Guten tag, hope you are all well ? really and truly ? thank you if you’re coming back and welcome if you are new, I pray you are blessed in some way, please feel free to send any prayer requests, comments, questions, corrections, all of that. God bless you
I want to start by thanking God for each and every single one of you who have made the very important decision to follow Christ. The gift of salvation described in Matthew 1:21 – (she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins) is exactly what has happened to every believer and for this we must constantly show our appreciation.
I’ve realised that to accept that there is a God and to claim that we have given our lives to Him is one thing, but to really follow him with every single fibre of our being is a completely different thing, and that is the focus of this post.
To use myself as an example, I have been a Christian basically all my life, but really only by word and not my actions. I attended church regularly but that in no way proves me to be a follower of Christ. In fact my true heart was revealed at university when my church attendance began to dwindle significantly because it was no longer mandatory. I had gone with my family when I was living with them but when it was just left to me to make the decision, I failed to understand the importance of it and so only went when I really felt like it . My actions did not match up with that of a true child of God; I was very much of this world as I believed I could be a follower of christ and still love this world .
I can tell you that lifestyle is so unprofitable for any of us; you must pick one. You are simply fooling yourself if you are of the assumption that you can do both; the bible refers to this as lukewarmness. To be lukewarm means that you are neither hot nor cold, instead you are in between. It means you’re not choosing to live for Christ and are still very much of this world.
The way I see it sometimes is like going up and down on this scale; sometimes you are on fire for God whilst also trying to gain the approval of the world. To be in this state even sounds very tiring, confusing and impossible so lets just stop doing it altogether. In Revelations 3:15-16, Jesus made his stance on this issue very clear when He said: “so because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” I dont know about you but people usually only spit disgusting things out of their mouths; things that are not edible, things that do not bring any hapiness to ones tastebuds, and I believe those words were used to really help us visualise and understand His distaste for lukewarmness.
1 John 2:15-16 reminds us that it is not possible to love the world, the things it offers and also the Father, simply due to the fact that they contradict one another.
For a long time I thought being lukewarm only meant to be comfortable in sin. I am learning however that this is not the case; we can flee from sin and yet still be very much lukewarm. To express what I mean I’ll give an example:
Whilst at work, do we supress our convictions in order to avoid persecution? I find that it is easier to truly show our love for God when we are surrounded with others who share that same love. Like at church, we can be as free as we want and not worry about being “too much” for others as there’s no fear of judgement.
A few questions that we can ask ourselves are:
“Do the people I work with know that I am a Christian?”
“Do my actions and words portray what it truly means to be follower of Christ?”
“Do I partake in conversations that bring others down or that do not glorify God?”
“Am I a completely different person when at church and around Christians and when I am around unbelievers?”
“Am I passionate about sharing the good news of the gospel with the people I come in contact with ” or do you think that there are certain people assigned to doing this ?
In Luke 14: 25-33 , Jesus explains the importance of counting the cost of discipleship before committing to it because there will be sacrifices to be made if we are to truly follow Christ with all our heart. We are encouraged to love everything else less than we love Christ, including our family, even our own lives. We must be willing and ready if we were ever to be asked to drop EVERYTHING in order to follow Him.
When Jesus Christ chose to die on the cross for each of us, that we may be free and free indeed, I believe that He did it wholeheartedly. Our response to this amazing gift therefore, should be to follow him with all of our hearts and to be on fire at all times no matter what the consequences might be. 2 Timothy 3:12 says “indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” so if you are reading this and have never experienced persecution on behalf of Christ, ask yourself why. It may be that you need to start being a bit more radical whether in your workplace, community or wherever it is that you go. As followers of Christ, we must be 100% committed to our faith. Our love for God has to come before anything else that this world may have to offer, and if we claim to truly love Him, then shouldn’t every aspect of our lives glorify him? Everyone we come into contact with should be able to see that we are different, set apart and not of this world. We must view sin in the same way that Christ views it, we must bear fruit, we cannot afford to compromise.
As this post speaks to you, it is speaking to me a lot more I can promise you that, and there are a few things the Lord is making me aware of that I do and the changes I need to make so that I can really glorify Him in every aspect. I encourage you to search your hearts, ask the Lord for revelation, ask for conviction , and if you need to ask a close christian friend some tough questions then do so. I believe that James 5 ; 19 really encourages us to be of help to one another in our spiritual lives because sometimes it can be hard for us to see the error of our ways for a number of different reasons which is why it is important that we surround ourselves with like minded people who can and will speak truth and correction into our lives. It says “my brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back , remember this : whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover a multitude of sins”
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Peace + Love , talk to you all soon by the grace of God xxxxxxxx
